A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition today after being struck by an SUV on Monday night, police confirmed. The Jersey Journal reports.

According to Elizabeth Lt. Dan Geddes, Sadil Rodriguez was struck just before 5 p.m. by a 2000 Dodge Durango in front of 135 West Jersey Street.

Witnesses told police Rodriguez ran out into the roadway from in between two parked cars and was struck, Geddes said.

Rodriguez was treated by Elizabeth Fire Department EMS and paramedics from Trinitas Hospital and transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he is listed in critical but stable condition with as yet undisclosed injuries, Geddes said.

The driver did stay at the scene, has not been charged with a crime, and the incident remains under investigation, Geddes said.

Geddes said the Union County Sheriff’s Department and the Union County Police Department accident investigation unit also responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation.
