Open/Close Menu Personal Injury Lawyer NJ reports that the man who was killed in yesterday’s tragic accident on the New Jersey Turnpike Hudson County Extension was rear-ended by another vehicle and then thrust through a toll plaza before being hit by another vehicle, State Police said today.

Timothy O’Donnell, 48, and his daughter, Bridget O’Donnell, 6, both of Bayonne, were killed in the 3:19 p.m. accident just west of the 14C toll plaza in Jersey City, State Police confirmed.

Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that O’Donnell, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, was slowing with traffic in lane 10 at the tolls. Scott Hahn, 36, of Hamilton was driving a 1998 Mercedes-Benz when he rear-ended O’Donnell’s car, authorities said.

It’s unclear whether investigators have determined how fast either vehicle was travelling.

As a result of the impact, O’Donnell’s car traveled through the tolls and crossed into the eastbound lane of the roadway. At that point, Eliasar Morales, 51, of Bayonne, struck O’Donnell’s car with the Mercedes Benz van he was driving, State Police said.

Timothy O’Donnell, a teacher at County Prep High School in Jersey City, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:41 p.m. Bridget O’Donnell was transported to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, where she was pronounced dead at 3:43 p.m.

The Montgomery Street school is expected to release a statement on O’Donnell’s death later today.

Hahn was also taken JCMC with moderate injuries, and was last listed as in stable condition. Morales, who was driving a CarePoint Health van, was transported to CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

No charges have been filed at this time, State Police said.
