The deaths of a woman and her young child in the Jersey City Heights are being considered “suspicious at this point” and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating, The Jersey Journal reports.

The woman, who was in her 20s, and her 5-year-old child were found unconscious in the Lincoln Street home last night and brought to CarePoint Health-Christ Hospital.

The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 6:20 p.m. and the child was pronounced dead at 6:30, he said.

The Jersey City Fire Department and other regional responders tested the air quality in the home and so far all tests have come back negative for carbon monoxide, he said.

The mother and child lived on the second floor of the two-family house on Lincoln Street between Summit and Central avenues but authorities have declined to say whether anyone else lived in the apartment.

Jersey City police had gone to the home on a call of two unconscious people, he said, declining to comment on who had made the call.

Earlier tonight, a City resident who lives nearby on Zabriskie Street, told The Jersey Journal that the child was pulled from the home first followed by the woman, who was wrapped in a blanket.

“She was not moving, wrapped in a blanket from head to toe,” he said, adding that the child appeared to be “limp” when taken away by EMS.
