On June 6, 2015, two prisoners escaped from the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York.  These men, both in jail for murder, had tunneled their way through a pipe and emerged from a sewer about 500 feet from the prison.

They’re still out there – somewhere – and haven’t even been spotted.  The convicts, Richard Matt and David Sweat, are out in a no-man’s land and could, conceivably have taken refuge in one of the thousands of seasonal cottages or campgrounds in the area.  Although police guarded bridges between New York and Vermont, it seems no one checked the ferries .

So by now, they’re home free, right????

Not necessarily.

It took 56 years to find Frank Freshwaters this month. He had been convicted of vehicular manslaughter in 1957, escaping from a prison farm in Ohio two years later when he was in his 20’s. Neighbors in Florida knew him as a 79-year-old retired truck driver who lived in a trailer on Social Security as “William Harold Cox.”

U.S. Marshals in Ohio had created a ruse to get him to sign papers so they could
check his fingerprints, which matched the decades-old arrest.

In any event, somehow, someplace, I’m pretty sure the long arm of the law will catch up with these guys.

Have a good weekend.
