A Jersey City teen who was carrying a loaded handgun Sunday night after a short foot chase was arrested, The Jersey Journalis reporting.
The 17-year-old boy was charged with multiple weapon-possession charges, resisting arrest and obstruction of a governmental function, a police report said. The boy’s name was not released because he is a minor.
Police said they received a tip about a person, dressed all in black, in possession of a handgun in the area of Winfield and Ocean avenues, the police report said. A few minutes later, police on Ocean Avenue saw a person who fit the description, with what appeared to be a weapon in his right front pocket.
When police officers got out of their car and identified themselves, the teen fled North on Ocean Avenue, but he was apprehended at Seaview and Ocean avenues after a brief struggle, police said.
Police said the teen was carrying a Diamondback handgun, its serial number partially defaced, and a loaded magazine. After he was processed at the Juvenile Bureau the teen was taken to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health with two small scratches to his right leg, police said.
