A local man needed more than 20 stitches after he was stabbed and robbed of $200 early yesterday morning on Bergen Avenue which is only blocks from my Jersey City office.

The 22-year-old victim told police he had just left a group of friends on Union Street after 5 a.m. when a man wearing all black and a hooded sweatshirt grabbed his wallet, a report said.  While I’m a pretty early riser, I don’t walk the streets of Jersey City at 5 o’clock.

When the victim tried to push the man away, he was slashed in the arm by some type of knife of razor, opening a huge gash, the report stated.

The 22-year-old was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health and receiving eight stitches on the underneath layer of skin and 14 stitches on the outside layer, the report stated.  The victim told police he cannot identify the man and that his wallet contained $200, ID cards and a Social Security card.
