Bail was set at $200,000 cash-only Friday for a 45-year-old Jersey City man with a long criminal record, including theft from a grave site. He is now facing charges of robbing the living, The Jersey Journal reports.
Jose Cotton, of the 200 block of Bright Street, is charged with committing a robbery last Saturday by allegedly threatening the victim with “immediate bodily harm in the course of committing a theft by knowingly showing victim a six-inch knife,” the criminal complaint says.
The complaint says Cotton told the victim he “was going to slit his throat” while stealing a cell phone worth about $300 from the victim’s rear left pocket.
Cotton is also charged with unlawful possession of the knife and possession of the knife for an unlawful purpose, the complaint says.
Cotton has 39 prior arrests, 19 disorderly persons convictions and criminal convictions for theft from a grave site, aggravated assault, burglary, threatening to commit a crime, two counts of shoplifting, two counts of drug possession and four counts of robbery, court officials said.
