A man was shot once in the chest last night in Jersey City, prompting police to search for a white cargo van reportedly seen fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, the Jersey Journal reports.  Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said the man is a 29-year-old Randolph Avenue resident, adding that he had several thousand dollars on him at the time of the shooting.

Police responded to a Myrtle Avenue address near Randolph Avenue at around 9:45 p.m. where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the “left chest area,” police said in radio transmissions.

The man was conscious and speaking with police, according to the transmissions.

A white cargo van was reportedly seen speeding away from the scene of the shooting and was last spotted traveling south on Garfield Avenue, police said, however there were no witnesses to corroborate the report.
One shell casing was recovered at the scene, the transmissions indicated.
