NJ.com reports that one person was killed and at least four students were injured during a bus crash in the Bridgeton area, according to officials.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota RAV4, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Dr. Thomasina Jones, the superintendent of Bridgeton schools, the bus had four kids on it who were in an out-of-district placement. Their ages range from 11 to 17. The four students and bus driver were sent to Inspira Medical Center Vineland.

A bus aid was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, Jones said.

The collision occurred Thursday morning between a school bus and Toyota RAV4 car.

The accident occurred on East Commerce Street by Tip’s Trailer Park in Fairfield Township around 7:42 a.m., according to New Jersey State Police.

The bus is owned by Kerry Bus Service and was headed toward Pineland Learning Center in Vineland.

Bridgeton Public Schools is reaching out to families of the children Thursday morning.

“My heart goes out to all of the students’ families and the other driver,” she said.

A school employee is at Inspira Medical Center Vineland to be with the children until their parents arrive, Jones added.

The man, who declined to give his name, was at the emergency room entrance directing parents arriving at the hospital to their children in the ER. He directed all questions about the accident to district headquarters

Inspira Spokeswoman Diana Gervasi said she could not detail the extent of the injuries of those being treated at Inspira, but said one student was expected to be released later Thursday morning.

Gervasi said Patient Relations staff members and nurses were on hand to comfort the students’ parents.
