Police have released new details about a fight and pedestrian struck in Jersey city that left two women hospitalized Monday night, one in critical condition. WABC reported.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. at Union Street near MLK Drive in the city’s Bergen Lafayette neighborhood, with witnesses saying one victim was intentionally run down after a physical altercation on the street.

A 23-year-old Bayonne woman was arrested after police say she struck a 25-year-old Boyd Avenue woman with her vehicle, causing serious bodily injury.

The 25-year-old victim remains in critical condition at the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health.

According to police, the two women knew one another and had been engaged in an ongoing dispute when the driver approached the area of Union Street. Authorities say she was maced, and a large crowd of approximately 20 people converged on the vehicle attacking the driver. They say as she was attempting to flee, she struck the other woman before crashing into a wall and knocking down a light pole.

“They were physically fighting,” bystander Tyrone Bey said. “They were fighting in the car. The girl jumped back into the driver’s seat and just mowed her down…The girl hit the gas right there on the corner, she hit the pole, and the car ran her over.”

To those watching, the intention was clear.

“Just ran her down,” the victim’s uncle, James Bates, said. “Deliberate, deliberate. The car jumped while she was under it, drove it from there to there…She just hit the gas as hard as she could and ran her down.”

As police towed the car away Monday night, the victim was in surgery with two broken legs and internal injuries.

The driver, Seynabou Fall, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and criminal attempt homicide. Fall was also taken to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, where she remains in serious condition from injuries sustained during the incident.

Tarif Davis, 23, of Kennedy Boulevard, was also charged with obstruction after repeatedly entering the crime scene against police instructions.

The case remains under investigation.
